How do I save Java on my remastered puppy linux live cd?

Q. I know how to down load Java and install on puppy linux 5.2 but how to you save it on the live cd so I don't have to download every time I restart.

A. Download the java.pet to the applications folder from the quickpet or where ever you download yours from. But don't install. After the download is complete remaster the live-cd.

Java will be waiting for you when ever you boot your live-cd. All you'll have to do is open the folder, click the pet and install. This is the only way to avoid re-downloading each time.

How does one run puppy linux in such a manner?
Q. I would like to keep a distro of puppy linux on a flash drive and I would like to keep all the downloads, applications, system files, boot sectors, etc. on the same flash drive so that it serves as a hard drive in a way.
Is there any way for me to do that?

A. Yes, it is a while since I ran puppy but when you first shut it down it should ask you where you want to create a file and if you select your flash drive thats where they will be

EDIT
I think what i did is install all the software I wanted and the did a 'full install' to a USB stick. This option is available in puppy somewhere

Puppy is very quick and great for recovering PCs and for browsing
I eventually moved to slitaz because puppy used to hang my router on shutdown and I get fed-up power-cycling the router

Hopefully some-one has done this more recently than me and has better recall - but I know it can be done pretty easily

i need help for installing puppy Linux in my computer?
Q. I have downloaded puppy Linux iso file and then I have made my USB bootable with it. I stuck it in usb port I booted it and It says searching for puppy files in computer drive and then error comes.

A. Something must have happened when you created your USB bootable. Create it again following instructions from these links

http://www.puppylinux.com/flash-puppy.htm
http://www.linuxgoodies.com/puppyonusb.html

Make sure you do a frugal install and not a full install. The frugal install is a better option.

How do I download flash to puppy linux?

Q. I have puppy linux on a computer, and I am trying to use a text messaging service through yahoo, but it says I must have flash installed to use it. When I follow the link, I am presented with 4 different filetypes to download. Which filetype do I need and what do I do with it?

Btw, I use SeaMonkey internet browser if that helps or changes anything.

A. The .tar.gz version

Here's how to install it:
Open a terminal and run:
wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

tar -xvzf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

cd install_flash_player_10_linux

./flashplayer-installer

Then follow the instructions it gives you. When it asks where you need to install it, respond: "/usr/lib/seamonkey"

How can I boot Puppy Linux and Windows 7?

Q. I have Puppy Linux 4.3.1 and Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm trying to get Puppy Linux installed, but it's really confusing. I'll think I've finished it because it says the setup is done, but when I reset it just boots Windows. How can I dual boot?

A. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/4622

This is a dual boot program. every time you turn your computer on it will go into it an you can choose which one.

However i have a suggestion. Go to the Ubuntu website and download Ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala. This automatically installs grub when it installs the OS. Plus it is still Linux, and it has tons more support.

I just downloaded Puppy Linux on a USB drive, now what?
Q. I just downloaded Puppy Linux on my USB drive, but when my computer turns on, it doesnt recognized the drive for me to install Puppy Linux... Help?

A. you have to burn it to a dvd using an image burning program, its an image file

What is your preferite linux distribution?
Q. I know only Puppy Linux.
It doesn't need any driver for my graphic, sound and network card, whereas xp needs all the drivers.
However Puppy Linux isn't as advanced as xp!..

What linux based operating system do you prefer?

A. I have only tried Ubuntu, but have used openSUSE running KDE in the university library. I'd have to say Ubuntu is a good choice for beginners. openSUSE is not that bad. It's got a lot of eyecandies.

I have downloaded five other distributions to try next month when I've got my laptop (openSUSE, Mandriva, Fedora, Debian and Linux Mint). I'll tell you my Linux stories later. :)

As well, you can not boot from a Flash drive so you are better of using an external drive for this and boot from there. Hope this helps

How to install applications in puppy linux?

Q. Hi, please help me. I am really stuck with this. I just set up puppy linux OS I want to install some software. But whenever I click on the setup file of a software, it says something like that I don't have a run action set. Now how can I install a software in puppy linux? Thanks.

A. You have to use the puppy linux way of installing apps, not the windows way (which is look for apps on the net and download and use the windows installer).

Can I download Puppy Linux with my current computer specs?
Q. I want to stop using Windows ME and switch to Puppy Linux. But I don't know if it would work on my old PC. I have a 6.2 gig hard drive and 128.0 MB of Ram would Puppy Linux work?

A. The 6.2GB hard drive and the 128MB RAM wouldn't give you any problems. But all you have to do is download Puppy Linux and, burn it to disk, and boot the Live CD to see if it works.

You can also install Damn Small Linux if that doesn't work for some reason. I installed DSL on a system with a 4GB hard drive and only 64MB of RAM. It is very very fast and snappy on that system. When first booted, it only takes up 20MB of memory space.

Even DSL Linux would be a big step above Windows ME.

How can I boot Puppy Linux and Windows 7?

This is a dual boot program. every time you turn your computer on it will go into it an you can choose which one.

However i have a suggestion. Go to the Ubuntu website and download Ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala. This automatically installs grub when it installs the OS. Plus it is still Linux, and it has tons more support.

Linux is not like windows, if it was then we would only have windows!!!!!
or was puppy to basic, If so tru the ubuntu wubi file.
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer

EITHER

Start up puppy
go to /boot/grub/menu.lst right click on menu.lst
This will open a text editor

and change
#timeout 30
to
timeout 3

move the windows entry to above the puppy linux entry in the file so windows starts first

title Windows 7
root (hd1,0)
savedefault
makeactive
map (hd0) (hd1)
map (hd1) (hd0)
chainloader +1

title Puppy Linux 528 frugal test in sda1 dir test
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
kernel /test/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=test
initrd /test/initrd.gz

reboot
Grub screen will apear for 3 seconds then contue to boot windows

The pup files take up so little room that its useful to keep as puppy linux is used for antiviral work in windows 7!!!!!!

OR

If you have a win 7 cd

You need Windows 7 installation disk, boot it, choose repair option when you are asked to menu.

It will check automatically for start up problems. Let it check it.

-It will not find any problem with start up.

-It will allow to choose options. choose command prompt

-In Cmd you have to type just two following commands and grub will be removed

bootrec/fixmbr

bootrec/fixboot

Close cmd and restart your machine. That's Done

Remove the puppy directory and any sfs files you have used.

Only use the above with a windows 7 cd

DO NOT GO INTO COMMAND IN YOUR WHEN WINDOWS IS RUNNING
this has broken some windows 7 systems.

Use either method above.

How Can i install Linux OS in my Flash drive?
Q. Please tell me the method and source to download and install puppy Linux in my flash drive.

A. I don't think you can Install it on the flash drive. However you should be able to copy the files to the flash drive as long as the drive is big enough to contain them. As well, you can not boot from a Flash drive so you are better of using an external drive for this and boot from there. Hope this helps
