A. You shouldn't have downloaded the Lubi app from the source site.

You should just select Lubi in the Ubuntu Package Manager, instead.

Here's the Step by Step:

TIP: Repeat for all other applications you listed.

What is Linux and pantium what is the diffrence?
Q. I am interested to purchase a laptop a Linux system laptop. I would like to know does it works exactly like a pantium laptop. I need one to buy for my son. He will be using it for surfing net and playing games. Can some one please give me an advise. Thanks

A. Linux and Pentium are 2 totally different things.

Pentium is a common type of processor, and Linux is an Operating System (like Windows for example). If you have Linux on your machine it will look different to a Windows machine, but it will run faster, more efficiantly and won't get viruses.

If you don't know much about computers then I would not suggest installing Linux, it can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing.

what's the difference between Linux and Windows OS?
Q. I have Vista 64 bit. If I were to get my mom a Linux OS Laptop, what would be the differences?

A. They are two completely different operating systems. Linux operating systems are free, open source software. Vista is about as proprietary as it gets.

It depends on if your mother is familiar with Linux or not. If she is, then I see no reason not to get her a laptop with some Linux OS on it. If she is used to Windows, however, or if she is the typical `computer illiterate mother figure`, then I would strongly discourage you from giving her a Linux notebook, since it will probably cause you more headache than it is worth. I mean, sure, it's nice to be able to say to people that you've introduced your mother to Linux and the world of FOSS, but it would be incredibly irritating to have to re-teach her to do everything she knows about computers.

Of course, I don't know your mother personally. For all I know, she could be a programmer for NASA. You probably have a much better feel than anyone else as to whether she is the sort of person who can `handle` the commandline or not. Some people can, others can't. If you think it will simply confuse her, and you expect that it will be an annoyance to have to guide her by the hand through the basics of UNIX usage, then I would suggest that you make the extra investment in a copy of Windows for her; even if it's only to save yourself the hassle.
