how to uninstall programs on linux? and how to download skype?

Q. i just got a new linux netbook. i tried to download skype and i could not. so i want to know how to download it, i tried everything.

also, i downloaded it like 10 times and i want to save disk space, so how do i uninstall all the skype programs?

A. How you install something depends on how you installed it. If you installed it via source, then go into the file where you compiled it and type sudo make uninstall. If you installed it with a package manager then you'll need to use the package manager to uninstall it.

If you want to install skype, then you have two options. Since skype is not open source, you can't compile the source for it. You can use your package manager to install whatever version they provide though the repos, or you can go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/ and download an updated version for whatever linux distro you are using.

My computer can't connect to my wireless router wirelessly but it can with a wired connection?
Q. I just bought and set up a D-Link DGL-4500, and it works perfectly if my computer is plugged in to the ports at the back of the router, but when I try to connect wirelessly it just says "Windows cannot connect".

When I try to connect my cheap little linux netbook wirelessly, it connects flawlessly.

What can I do to make this work??

A. I bet it's because you need to install all of the service packs on your Windows machine.

I believe that support for WPA/WPA2 wasn't included until either SP2 or SP3 of XP.

If that's not the problem, then go to the web site of your computer manufacturer or WiFi card manufacturer to see if there is an updated driver or support program available for your computer or WifI card.

Download the WiFi related updates (if available) and see if that doesn't fix the issue.

Good Luck!
