How do you create a server for minecraft, on linux mint?

I have linux mint, and my dad only has that for our computer. I would like to know how to create a server on minecraft for linux mint! Help please

A. Linux mint is probably the easiest Linux OS to use. You shouldn't have any problems. Here's a quick tutorial I found: http://velkrokronicles.wordpress.com/2011/04/21/minecraft-server-setup-part-1/

How do I change my minecraft multiplayer map on an ubuntu character based server?

A. I dont know is this will help you or not, but if any of you are looking for premium accounts these people on Youtube are sharing some, I got two working account myself http://youtu.be/BrLN01GR4b8 , enjoy! =)

How to make Minecraft run faster on LinuxIUbuntu?
Q. I have the latest version of Minecraft and a Linux Ubuntu computer with 3.7GB of RAM and a 2.4ghz processor. When I had Windows 7 on my same computer everything ran fine but now I'm running at 1-2 fps on tiny with minimal setting. Any ideas what I should do?

A. I get much better performance on linux that Windows. Your problem is probably a video driver problem, or the lack thereof. If you are using a vesa or other generic driver, minecraft will not perform well.

How to add Commands on Minecraft server?
Q. I just made a Minecraft server via linux, can somebody walk me through step by step how to add commands? Also, how to whitelist and black list, also, how to create user groups? Thanks!

A. You need to give a little bit more detail, we need to know if you are using Craftbukkit, or just a regular server, as installing mods that give commands on Craftbukkit servers is WAAY easier, since you just add the jar file into a plugins folder, but on a regular server, each mod's installation varies and it can be complicated.

For white listing, go to the server properties file, then set whitelist to 'true' and then go to the whitelist file and add the usernames of those on the whitlist. A blacklist is not needed as anyone not on the whitelist will not be able to get in, or you can just use the /ban or /banip command that comes as standard.

Will running a minecraft server on my computer slow it down?

Q. I have decided to run a small minecraft server on my computer. I have am using a macbook pro. I want to know if this will slow down my computer, or will it only slow down when the server is running. Also, if i deleted the server would it run fast again? At tops, I will have 10 people on at once.

A. if you are going to run a server use Linux
do not use a Windows based PC for any server --- i know you are not i just wanted to point that out
but really if it's a server you want to run you can use Linux and it will be amazing esp if its a built in program by the game
YES Minecraft runs on Linux --- if you don't know what Linux is have a look at Linux Mint MATE edition or XFCE so it will run fast but still be easy to use
and it's not hard to run either

Is there any way I can speed up Tekkit on my computer?
Q. I'm running the Technic pack for minecraft on linux, but with a 32x32 texture pack and all the setting set to the lowest (Render distance, Particles, etc), I get about 8-12 FPS. I have 4 GB of RAM allocated to it, but it hasn't sped up much (If at all). Is there any way I can get a higher frame rate?

A. I have the same problem. But i know how to fix it(i'm on windows) You know how to get to the technic pack folder? Then tekkit>options(text object) The search for fps limit and change it to 2050. Then start up tekkit, and you should have a higher frame rate. It worked for me. If you didn't get any higher fps then you should search for antoher forum. Hope i helped :)

How do I set-up a Minecraft bukkit server on linux?

Q. Hey, I'm already running a Minecraft server on a seperate ubuntu machine upstairs but now I want to run a bukkit server. I've seen the tuturial of putting the file in a folder and using shell to copy that code to run it, but how do I use shell. And secondly, how do I add plugins to a ubuntu bukkit server. Thanks.

A. Its really easy, all you have to do is drag the plugins .jar file into the "Plugins" folder. It will automatically install the plugin. To use the shell, double-click it.

Go here if you need more help:

What is the difference between minecraft on windows and mac os x?
Q. My school got new macs, and the teachers said we could use flash drives on the macs. So if i were to copy my.minecraft folder (from windows) on to my flash drive, and transfer them to the mac, and use magic launcher to select the .jar file, would it work?

A. Only if you have a mac version of Magic Launcher, since macs cant run exes. I dond know if theres a mac one, but on the magic launcher minecraftforums page there definatly is a linux version (as a .jar) whick will work on any OS, including all mac OS and Windows OS.

What is the best desktop to run a minecraft server?
Q. I want to buy a desktop to run my minecraft server along with a website or two. I want about 10gb of ram. please put the price and the amount of ram. Thanks!

A. You should be more specific about the requirements. What kind of websites, how complicated? How much traffic do you expect? How many users on the Minecraft server?

Simple web sites can be hosted on just about anything, as long as it's suitable to the OS. I've hosted light web sites on as little as a Pentium 166. That only became a problem when linux got heavier over time and started needing too much RAM. Today I'd probably use a low end (~533-650MHz) Coppermine core P3, as they are very low on power consumption and can do the job fine (if it's just a lightly loaded site). They are nearly worthless 2nd hand, so they're cheap to get. 512MB, 1GB if the board allows it.
Sites with a complicated database and heavy traffic would have more need for disk I/O and more RAM. A modern system with 10GB is hugely overpowered though, unless these are high traffic sites. If you're running this on residential broadband, most likely the connection isn't fast enough to make use of a high powered server.

The Minecraft server might be more demanding than the web sites.
If the Minecraft server is just for a few people, you could do fine with a midrange or later P4 or Athlon 32-bit machine. 2GB RAM would be fine for a few users, but more is better. The requirements increase depending how many users you have. Minecraft server capacity depends more on RAM and upload bandwidth than the CPU.
A system like that would be cheap 2nd hand today. Or anything newer won't hurt, but point is, you don't need to spend on a new system unless you're running some heavy loads.
If it's a dedicated server and not being used to play the game as a client, then you don't need to worry about the video card. The server is only processing data, not rendering graphics.
